Walk on the wild side

View large to spot all the turtles.
There are 10 in this shot by my count!

We also saw one snake (ew) and one beaver. Or maybe it was a muskrat. I’m not sure.

Whatever it was, I certainly won’t be taking a dip in the river any time soon. I don’t care how hot it gets this summer. I don’t share my swimmin’ hole with snakes.

  1. I made all of my coworkers crack up last week when I stated that I don’t like to swim with animals. But it’s true. I only like to swim in bodies of chlorinated water.

  2. Chlorination rules. My brother’s dog swims in my dad’s pool, but Jack is a good dog and he isn’t the least bit slithery, so he gets a free pass.

  3. FYI, that’s a copper head snake. Even though it’s a little far away, I can tell it has a triangle-shaped head! I nearly stepped on one at Rock Bridge State Park last spring. Blah! I hate snakes.

  4. I echo Amy’s sentiment on not swimming with animals. I’m a hard-core, nature-loving girl, but I don’t swim in natural bodies of water. Ever since the flying fish incident of 1990, I only love to look at natural water. The once exception I made was for one of my dearest friends’ bachelorette weekends, where we went to her family’s lakehouse in the Ozarks and she wanted to spend the afternoon out in the water. We jumped off the boat dock into deep water on floating bean bags. Bless her heart, she slapped the water with a pool noodle while i got out at the shore line to keep all the critters away….
