My brother’s fiancee and I took Poppy to David’s Bridal over the weekend to look at flower girl dresses. I was expecting Pi to be thrilled at all of the “princess dresses,” but she was pretty ornery about the whole thing. She rejected every dress in the flower-girls section as “not Aunt Carrie’s dress.” She finally spotted one she liked in the “junior bridesmaid” section. It was about two sizes too big for her. Once we tied up the straps, though, it looked fine. She pranced around in front of the mirrors for awhile proclaiming, “I’m a princess!” When I tried to put her regular clothes back on, she yelled, “Make me another princess! I want to be another princess!”
I think she’ll enjoy being a flower girl.
After the princess extravaganza, Rockford and Justin came back to fetch Poppy, and Carrie and I looked at dresses for me. Because I’m going to be a bridesmaid. David’s Bridal has 10,004 bridesmaids dresses available, and I tried on four of them. I found one I really liked, but it’s long and I wanted to find something knee-length. Here’s where you come in. Do you think they’d be able to alter this to make it knee-length, without it looking funny?
The wedding is next September, so I have a little while to figure this out.
That’s super cute! Yes, I think it can be altered. And I’m sure their alterations lady will give her two cents, too.

I think it could be altered but there may not be as much flare at the bottom…and no, I really don’t know what I’m talking about.
i agree with sandi (and yes, i’m also talking without really knowing, but oh well). the alterations can be done, but you won’t be able to get the oh-so-lovely flare at the bottom. which, if you’re not partial to flare, might be not such a bad thing…

I know nothing about alterations, but the flaring at the bottom makes me wonder what it would look like if cut under the knee. I admit, I really like the under the knee length (my bridesmaids had that length). It’s a really nice dress, I’m sure the alteration people can tell you if it will turn out well, they might even know of other styles that are similar to what you want.

I think you want a sturdier fabric (like satin) for a tea-length, so I’m not sure how this would work. It’s a lovely dress, though.
Being pretty anti David’s Bridal for what they did to my wedding dress, I can put in my two cents.
The dress can be altered but as stated above, you will lose the flare.. which is fine as long as you are aware of it.
The alterations people at DB will not be very helpful with cutting that amount of length from the dress or even advice on that type of alteration because although they can change the length slightly for someone’s height, they are not allowed to perform or discuss alterations that change the actual design of the dress. I asked them to remove a pleat in the sleeve of my dress and they wouldn’t do it. But as long as you can find a seamstress you are happy with elsewhere, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Sorry for being so negative… I think it is a really cute dress long or short… I am just not a fan of David’s…. good luck!!
One time, in 7th grade Home Ec class, I sewed a bag. Since then, I’ve sewed nary a button. So you’re asking the wrong guy.
You weren’t really asking me were you?
Regarding the flare, the dress wasn’t as flarey in person as it looks in that picture. It’s really more flowy than flarey.
@Jenelle: “for what they did to my wedding dress” … you can’t just leave us hanging like that. What did they do??
@Chris: I was sure that if anyone could answer this one, it would be you.
