We had some friends over for dinner tonight. They have a 3-year-old daughter, and there was Worlds O’ Drama when they had to leave. Poppy and her pal had a blast, and as a result we got to have a full conversation with grown-ups! It was nice. But the drama meant that I missed the first 15 minutes of “Idol.” So it goes.
I tuned in just before David Cook started his performance. As Mr. Diamond predicted, I’ve never heard “I’m Alive.”
Brooke White sang “I’m a Believer” and looked frightened.
Of course Little David Archuletta would sing “America.” First, though, he’s singing “Sweet Caroline,” which is one of my favorite songs to belt. Poppy hopped out of the tub while he was singing, so I can’t tell you how he did.
Rockford says Syesha has Destiny’s Child hair tonight, as she sings … I don’t know the name of it. If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say it was called “Hello.” It was pleasant and boring.
I missed both of Jason Castro’s performances, but apparently he wasn’t all that great. Something makes me think he’s actually trying to go home.
During David Cook’s second performance of the evening, I thought “He’s going to win.” Not that the song moved me all that much, but I think he’s established his sound and his voting bloc well enough to win the inevitable David vs. David finale.
Brooke’s second song is “I Am I Said,” which I’ve also never heard. She has some of the lyrics written on her hand. That’s cute and silly. She’s behind the piano again, and she looks much more comfortable. “I Am I Said” seems to be a slow jam, and I do enjoy a Neil Diamond slow jam. Brooke’s version is all sad and lonely and I loved it. (Even thought I don’t like her sparkly pants.)
And now it’s time for Little David’s anthem! Now, “America” is a cheesy song. With a sprinkling of Little David’s magic, though, it’s even cheesier! That’s talent. Or something. That boy has a future in Branson, that all I’ll say.
Syesha closes out the show with “Thank the Lord for the Nighttime” — and clapping! She’s been showing more personality the last few weeks. Her “Nighttime” is fun and sassy, and her voice is great. I think maybe I should like her more than I do. I don’t know what it is about her that’s so off-putting. If it comes down to Little David and Syesha, though, I’ll definitely be in the Syesha camp.
