On Monday night I dreamed a panicky dream about money. I don’t remember specifics, but it was not enjoyable. Then when I woke up yesterday morning, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was in my head for about two hours.
I don’t know whether the two are connected.
It ended up being a really nice day despite its kind of inauspicious start. It was crazy warm for the trailing end of October, and we had very few things to do outside of the house. That’s my favorite kind of day.
Cars in the morning
Yesterday morning was pretty much just like Monday morning, but with nary a muffin. After breakfast and computer time, Pete started an epic adventure with his cars. Poppy asked if she could join him rather than doing her spelling, so I let her play for about half an hour.
Marsha T. Cat
I promised you cat photos, and I shall deliver cat photos. I’m not sure what has MTC’s attention here, but if I were a bettin’ lady I’d lay odds on A Squirrel.
Back to school
Once the vehicle games were out of the way, the kids started in on their schoolwork. Pete’s math yesterday included re-creating patterns from memory, and he did pretty well with it. The last few of Poppy’s math lessons have been review in preparation for her first-ever math test later this week. She’s having a little trouble remembering which way the greater than / less than symbol is supposed to go, which is sort of weird because I always had trouble with that, too.
We also did a little history, some geography, spelling, handwriting and reading. After getting very little done Monday, school-wise, I was very happy to actually get all of the things on our daily list done yesterday!
I love this guy
Rockford came home for lunch, and he washed the dishes before he went back to work.
Soccer celebration
This weekend is Poppy’s last soccer game, and instead of having practice yesterday they had a little party at the playground. Poppy’s coach gave all of the girls a soccer ball picture frame for their team pictures, and they all signed one another’s frames. Cute stuff. There was pizza, a fruit platter and a batch of cupcakes, and much fun was had by all.
Except for when Pete reached into the Halloween bowl for a cookie and awoke the skeleton-beast thing on it and gave me a look of sheer terror. That part wasn’t so enjoyable for him.
JJ T. Cat
Judging by this photo, I’d guess that JJ has been watching “America’s Next Top Model” on the sly. I’m pretty sure I see a smize going on here.
Dinnertime and thereabouts
Rockford got home from work while we were at the playground, so he started dinner. Go Rockford! He also raked some leaves while the ravioli was in the oven, and we all know that leaf piles are just big, crunchy kidmagnets. So the kids did some leaf leaping, and then we headed inside for hand-washing and dinner.
And Poppy ate a minuscule bit of a green bean. Oh victorious day!
And then the kids went to bed
And I typed this and watched “New Girl.” Rockford went to the video store for a disc of “Homeland,” and he also brought home some root beer. Which he used to make me a root beer float.
I love this guy. Did I mention that?
Sounds like a great day!
I always thought of them as mouths. Big things chomp little things, and little things get chomped by big things. Ex. Ten is bigger than 9, so 10 chomps 9. 9 is smaller than 10, so it gets chomped by 10. Or, stated otherwise, 10<9 and 9>1.
Poppy says: “That’s funny, Uncle Perry Mason.”
The cats are gorgeous. The kids are adorable.
I love when husband’s do the dishes. Mine tends to do them if I don’t (and is it bad to admit that I don’t do them to see if he does them?)
I was just going to say the same thing, Perry Mason! I like to draw little alligator teeth inside the to make a nice memorable impression. On my college students. Just sayin’: hungry alligator inequality symbols are for all ages.
I’m not a fan of alligator mouths myself. Is she having trouble comparing numbers or just knowing which symbol is which? The less than symbol, <, if you straighten it makes an L. Or it points to the Left (Left, L, Less Than).
It’s just the symbols. She was doing OK with the crocodiles (or alligators), but it threw her for a loop when the book told her to think of it as an arrow pointing at the small number. I think we just need to pick a consistent way of looking at it.
I love your kitties. We have two and they are both black and white. And we had our last football game yesterday. Woo Hoo.
Holy cow!!! Your DH does the dishes AND cooks when you’re out with the kids?? Holy cow! Mine will do the dishes but still need my help to heat up leftovers LOL!
LOVE LOVE the leaf jumping pic at the end. And, HUZZAH for a husband who comes home for lunch and does the dishes. Three cheers.
What a kick butt day!! I really adore that leaf jumping shot– it captures what leaf jumping is all about!
And hooray for awesome husbands!
He is an excellent husband!
Looks like a great day, and your husband doing the dishes is awesome! What a great guy 🙂
Now that sounds like my kind of day!! You’re inspiring me to take a more serious look at homeschooling my girls when they’re old enough. Also, if Rockford could give my hubs a call and pass on some pointers? lol
