I’ve always loved Christmas, but I’ve been feeling very Grinchly this year. I think I’ve narrowed the reasons down to three:
- It’s been far too warm here for any Christmas spirit. At least, it was too warm until this weekend. Now it’s delightfully and bitterly cold.
- Most of our Christmas stuff is in storage at my Dad’s house. (Long story.)
- I’ve done most of my Christmas shopping online. Thus, nary a shopkeeper has wished me a Merry Christmas.
We tried to boost the holiday spirits last night with a trip to see the county-sponsored Christmas lights at a local park. But guess what! They ended the festivities on Saturday. Christmas spirit? Not so boosted.
So I was delighted today to find that BooMama is hosting a holiday tour of homes today. It brings together two of my favorite things: Christmas decor and peeking inside admiring other people’s homes.
In the interest of fairness, I’ll give you a peek into our home, too! Here it is, in all its festive glory.
My grandparents send us the gift of food every year. This is the remnant of torte that I took down nearly single-handedly. In the name of Christmas spirit, of course.
The poinsettia that Rockford’s parents gave us last year has been thriving until this month, when I think I may have killed it with kindness neglect.
Rockford’s cousin Austin gave us the Mouse King last year for Christmas. He’s been very protective of the tree this year, and he wields a mean sword. Let’s see if we can’t sneak past him for a closer look.
We’ve opted for a small tree in the last few years, mainly because of the small, inquisitive person in the house. It’s sitting atop a chest freezer this year. Because there’s nothing more Christmas-y than a chest freezer.
Let’s take a closer look!
I found GingerBert last year at Bronner’s (a.k.a. One of My Favorite Places on Earth). His pals GingerErnie, GingerCookieMonster, GingerOscar and GingerBigBird are also up there. Bert is Poppy’s favorite, though, so he gets to go on the Internet.
The Mouse King wasn’t menacing enough for you? This fella should leave you shaking in your elf booties.
Our tree may be small, but it’s big enough to display a whole baseball stadium! I chalk it up to the magic of Christmas.
You may have noticed that there’s very little under the tree. That’s because Poppy loves to unwrap presents. So we have a very festive closet! (Pay no mind to the mess.)
I was afraid this last piece might take the Christmas decorating over the top. But then I decided there’s really no such thing as over-the-top where the holidays are concerned, so I sallied forth.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour of our home. Leave a comment if you’re sharing your decor, too. I’d love to see it!
Merry Christmas!!
