I must’ve been in a very lazy state of mind when I made this week’s menu, because it is heavy on the EZ meals.
Monday: Tacos
I made the ground beef for this on Friday, when we had Mexican pizza. So I’ll have very little to do tonight beyond warming things up.
Tuesday: Mac ‘n’ cheese for the kids; leftover Orange Chicken for me
Wednesday: Huevos Rancheros
Rockford loves breakfast for dinner, and I love Mexican food. This might turn out to be our perfect meal.
Thursday: Fish sticks
I may get fancy and put mine on a bun.
Friday: Dinner out
Now, this has nothing to do with dinner. But I’m asking you here anyway, because it’s on my mind this morning. Rockford and I are 30. We have two children. I’m thinking it might be time to trade the futon in for a big-people sofa. What do you think?
I think Ragtag might have saved your couch…there was a short long orange one in the theater last night.
Yeah, I think it’s time for a real sofa. I highly recommend the fake-suede fabric. Our has had everything on it from cat puke to kid pee to bright pink highlighter ink, and it’s all come out with Oxi-Clean spray & a little scrub with a damp rag. And color is ESSENTIAL – ours is a neutral dark stone color, so it doesn’t show wear & tear as much.

As long as its a pull out so I have somewhere to sleep. =)
my best advice, with us the same age with little kids at home too…wait. It is so darn easy to be wooed by new and pretty things, but the reality is, the new one will be exposed to toddler messes and hands.. if the futon cuts it, keep it. Plus, you won’t be too worried when it gets messy since you want to eventually replace it anyway. We used some marriage gift money to purchase a lovely sofa set. Within one year it was ruined, with lots of baby puke and other accidents. I eventually sold it and got it in my brain that we needed a new and leather couch. My husband wanted a sectional so it was easy to convince him that we needed a new couch set. We got a cream colored leather sectional-on credit, we still have not paid it off. So far the kids have written on it with crayons, markers and pen-some that will never come off. It has some scratches from moving several times, that will only get worse with wear. AND, we will never be in a place large enough to use the entire sectional-so it is a complete waste of money and storage of the huge wedge piece. If I could do it again, I would keep the original set we had before any purchases were made. It was functional and we sold it to a friend.
The other thing is, it is a huge purchase that certainly does not appreciate in value. I would consider something used from craigslist, since the second you bring a new set home, it is worth only 1/4 of what you paid 24 hours prior. I know, because when I realized my error in buying this set, I checked into selling it and realized we would be losing so much, it wasn’t worth it.
Good luck-whateve you decide.

Re: the futon. I think you need a disclaimer. Your futon is actually a LOT nicer than the average futon. From what I recall, it’s an upscale futon. 🙂

Thanks for the input! In an ideal world, I’d just get the couch that Rachel mentioned back from the Ragtag and have it reupholstered. As that’s not a viable option, though, we’ll probably end up just getting a new mattress for the futon. It is a nice futon, but it’s seen a lot of sitting since we got it, and the mattress is pretty well shot.
Mark and I are over 30, some of us are over 40, and we have four children. We still have the futon in use in the house. In fact, if we hadn’t moved into a house with the front living room, it would probably still be the “main” sofa. If you have “short people” at home, new furniture is over rated, and definitely over priced. 🙂 I like the futon …. so comfy.
