This seemed to be Pick a Song that Really, Really Means Something to You week. I prefer theme weeks. Like Bee Gees week. I want another Bee Gees week.
Syesha came on just as I got home from getting my haircut, so I didn’t really here her at all.
Speaking of me and my hair, the girl who cuts my hair was apparently a Danny Noriega fan. She gives me Danny hair every time. I don’t love that. But I don’t know how to break up with a hair stylist. Any suggestions?
Anyway …
Jason Cook is great at choosing songs, and the ukulele version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was perfect for his voice.
I was eating a sandwich when Kristy Lee Cook sang a Martina McBride song. It was a great sandwich, but I don’t remember her song.
I finally got over here to my chair during David Cook’s not-so-hot performance. The danger in choosing a song that really, really means a lot to you is that you might not pick something that’s a good choice for your voice. I think that’s what happened here.
I couldn’t hear the name of what Carly Smithson is singing this week, but I did hear her say it was a Queen song. Despite what I said about David Cook, picking a song that spoke to her worked or Carly. She sang it well, and she showed more emotion than desperation this time.
Simon seems to think all the ladies are lookin’ fine tonight. I agree with him, though, that Carly’s performance seemed a little angry. I’d say that’s better than desperate, though.
Little David Archuleta’s performance tonight came during a diaper change. He sang something about love and angels (because he is a tiny little angel who embodies love), and from what I could hear, he sang it really well. Confound it all.
Of course Carole King inspired Brooke White! She sang “You’ve Got a Friend.” I think she changed the words a little. Or maybe James Taylor did and Brooke’s staying true to Carole King. Brooke’s voice is right on target, but the song is a little boring. Sweet, but boring.
I missed Michael Johns, but from the recap it looked like he was fabulous again. Although he may have been wearing a vest. I’ll have to YouTube him later.
From what I saw, Jason Castro was the best tonight. I’d say David Cook, Brooke White and Syesha will be in the bottom three, with Syesha going home.
