Rockford joined a golf league at work. They play on Tuesdays, starting tonight. This could signal the end of my “Idol Chatter.” We shall see.
David Cook sings “Hungry Like the Wolf,” and he wants to watch “Neeeemmmmooooo” and “clooosse the compuuuuuuteeerr.”
Wait, what? Oh, that was Poppy.
That didn’t last long.
Where was I? Right. David Cook. With the entire Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame to choose from, he picks “Hungry Like the Wolf”? What I could hear didn’t impress me. He didn’t bring anything new or interesting to the song.
Syesha did “Proud Mary,” as I should have guessed she would, based on her shiny gold dress. It was a decent Tina Turner impersonation. It looked like she was having fun. Jason Castro sang “I Shot the Sheriff,” and I couldn’t hear a bit of it. And I have no idea what Little David performed, because I wasn’t in the room.
And that’s the end of Part One! I think David Cook sang his second song while I was in Poppy’s room doing an encore performance of “Hush Little Poppy.”
Syesha is singing a song I love, “A Change is Gonna Come.” She has a pretty voice, but this song needs more depth and grit than she can manage. It isn’t a diva song, and she tried to make it one. Randy hated it! Simon and Paula loved it! And there was crying and it went on and on.
Big, goofy Jason is singing “Mr. Tambourine Man.” Dylan ought to be a good choice for him. Except he totally forgot the words and sang “uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh” instead of “in the jingle-jangle morning, I’ll come following you.” Despite that, his voice was nice in that Jack Johnson way. Randy obviously wants him gone, Paula is in love with him (but not with this performance) and Simon tells him to pack his suitcase.
Little David sang “Love Me Tender,” and it was a squishy, smooshy slow jam. Randy said he was “so tender” and he “caressed each word,” and that grosses me out a little. Simon says he “crushed the competition.” It was a nice “Love Me Tender,” and if it hadn’t been Little David I probably would’ve like it quite a bit.
