Yesterday I bought a bag of baby carrots, 3 pears, a bunch of bananas and 3 pounds of apples for Pete. That should last him about a month, because he is an eating machine.
We started him on “solid” foods when he hit the 4-month mark. He had rice cereal and baby oatmeal for a week or so. Then we mashed up a banana one night, and he went crazy.
(Poppy went crazy the first time she had bananas, too, but it was more of a Get This Foul Stuff Away From Me You Rotten, Rotten People sort of crazy.)
Since then, Pete has added pears and apples to his repertoire, and he loves them just as much as the bananas. He’s tried avocado, but he didn’t love it. I think it was the avocado, though; it wasn’t perfectly ripe. We’re going to try it again something.
Anyway, this week we’re on to carrots. At Poppy’s suggestion. She won’t eat anything but peanut butter sandwiches and rice, but she’s all about Pete trying new things. Go figure.
(Did I tell you I snuck a wafer-thin slice of banana into her peanut butter sandwich the other day? And that she bit into it and then gave the rest of her sandwich to Rockford? I think she might be a supertaster. At the very least she ain’t no fool.)
Pete wasn’t crazy about the carrots in their debut performance, but he didn’t shudder and arch his back and try to report us to protective services like some toddlers I know did when they were cute and adorable babies.
