I’m going with a pale, pale winter white for my face-clothes this season. And every other season as well.
Bugs and Fishes has a lovely idea for labeling your holiday gifts. I most likely won’t use it, though, because I don’t have a printer and my free-hand font skills are lacking. But you! You definitely ought to do it.
I think Roger Ebert may be on to something with this: “A newspaper film critic is like a canary in a coal mine. When one croaks, get the hell out. The lengthening toll of former film critics acts as a poster child for the self-destruction of American newspapers, which once hoped to be more like the New York Times and now yearn to become more like the National Enquirer. We used to be the town crier. Now we are the neighborhood gossip.”
I think I’ve seen a bumper sticker or something that says, “Smile! It’s contagious!” Well, apparently there’s truth in that.
I like a good LOLcat just as much as the next guy (unless the next guy happens to be Rockford, who is not amused), but I’ve never given it quite as much thought as Jay Dixit has, as he makes apparent in “I Can Has Cheezburger … and Pathos?”
Obama’s doing fireside chats on the Youtube. It looks like this is going to be the first administration to really embrace the Internet. I’m interested to see what else they do, tech-wise.
Speaking of Obama, I’d briefly thought about going to DC for the inauguration. Rockford’s grandmother lives there, so we’d have a free place to stay. But then I read that they’re expecting to fill the mall. I get a little squanchy around big crowds, and 4 million people? No thank you.
I like Steely Dan. And so does Donald Fagen. (This one’s a little languagey.)
A group of smart, outspoken moms are discussing some interesting things over at Momversation. The most recent topic is about talking to your kids about the economy.
I’ve been trying to avoid reading anything about the auto industry recently. My dad and several other family members have retired from or still work in the auto industry, and it’s stressing me out to think that they might lose their pensions. As usual, Sweet Juniper says it more eloquently than I can.
I didn’t realize the Sonics had left Seattle until a few weeks ago. One of their fans has been all too aware of it, though. He’s decided to fill the gap they left in his heart by becoming a free agent.
I’m sharing Amanda’s reaction to losing One Measly Pound with you just for the last paragraph. (Technically, I guess it’s the penultimate paragraph. But I think you’ll figure out which one I’m talking about.)
Simple Mom has a promotional code for a free photo book that she’s like to share with you. I hadn’t heard of Inkubook before, but I’ll happily try it out for free and it won’t work with my Mac.
