Heart surgery is a really disgusting job. Because you have to put your hands in the blood. That’s why they wear the cover-your-eyes masks.

Walk Score
Poppy and I don’t go outside much during the day. Mostly because it’s roughly 215 degrees here every day, but also because our apartment complex isn’t very outside-play friendly. We go for walks by the river every now and then, but the sidewalk they’ve put in there is only about 200 yards long. So it’s a short walk.
Anyway, I typed in our address over at Walk Score to see how they think our neighborhood stacks up. They agree with me. We scored a 3 out of 100. Our old duplex only scored a 35, which I think is a little low. There were ample sidewalks there and several shops and restaurants and at least one park within walking distance.
Lost in translation
Rosencrans Baldwin on living in Paris:
Striving to be polite, I am forced into rudeness. Like some Pete Greene character I’ve never seen inside myself before, I become the American aggressively pardoning everyone else for their faults: an American in Paris sure of what he’s not, but not of what he is.
Read the rest. It’s funny and sad all at the same time.
