A post-conference menu plan

I spent the weekend entirely out of my normal routine and pretty far out of my comfort zone at the Type-A Parent Conference. I learned a lot and had a ton of fun, but it’s always nice to come home.

Monday: Grilled sausages & veggies

This has become a summertime staple for us. Easy and yummy.

Tuesday: Cheeseburgers

These were supposed to happen last week, but we went to McAlister’s instead.

Wednesday: Eggs & veggie sausages

Seriously, I think Wednesday is breakfast day.

Thursday: Spicy Orange Pork

I found this one by flipping through the calendar to find some dishes we’ve enjoyed in the past. I hope I’m remembering correctly that it was good!

Thursday: Pizza

You know what I love about pizza night? No dishes to wash. Woo-ha!

A golf boy, the great outdoors and a menu plan

Rickie & Rockford
Rockford was off schmoozing with professional golfers this weekend,* so the kids and I drove my youngest brother (who does not have a blog nickname yet) to Perry Mason’s house so he can spend this week tearing down and rebuilding a dining room. I’m pretty sure he was expecting something more like Sleep Until 1pm and Then Play “Call of Duty” Until the Next Sleeping, but he’s stuck there now and Perry Mason is in full demo mode. Have fun, kid!

Anyway, Mrs. Perry Mason was excited to hear that the kids wanted to try camping, so she set up their tent in the backyard and stayed out there with the kids. Meanwhile, I slept until 9am on Saturday and Sunday. Pete wants to get a tent and put it in our backyard so he can sleep there every night. I think he enjoyed it.

We also discovered Perry Mason’s true calling in life. After he thoroughly trounced the rest of us at Clue a few times, we decided to test his acumen by making him play with one card and a notepad. He did not win, but he did get two of the three cards correct. He probably would’ve gotten the third, too, if a certain teenager had remembered that he had to reveal Professor Plum on one of his turns.

I can’t think of a single smooth way to segue from Professor Plum to my dinner plans for the week. I should’ve planned a plum-based meal just to avoid this problem.

Monday: Chicken-fried rice

I’ve never tried this one on the kids before. Pete likes nearly everything I’m going to put in it, though, so he should be fine. I’ll probably hold some plain rice aside for Ms. Pickypants.

Tuesday: Cheeseburgers

I was going to make sliders, but I couldn’t find any tiny buns. So we’ll be having boring ol’ normal-size burgers.

Wednesday: Eggs & veggie sausages

Because we certainly can’t let a week go by without having eggs for dinner.

Thursday: Pizza

I’m going to the Type-A Parent Conference for the weekend, so Thursday is kinda our Friday this week!

* He wasn’t there specifically to schmooze with professional golfers, but he did run into Rickie Fowler in the hotel lobby! Rockford usually doesn’t approach famous people, but Rickie Fowler is our nephew’s favorite golfer so he wanted to get a picture with him. So he did, and then Rickie Fowler went to play some golf and Rockford went to work. I think that’s all the golfer-schmoozing he did over the weekend.

Here’s my menu. We’ll eat this maybe.

Oh, hello! It’s Monday again! Well that week certainly went by quickly. Here are a few things that happened last week:

  • The kids are taking swimming lessons. Poppy is actually swimming now, which is a pretty big deal considering she wouldn’t get her face wet not all that long ago.
  • I forgot to get my allergy shots again.
  • Pete ate his weight in popsicles.
  • We had a cookout, and almost everyone in attendance played Crazy Tag. In which the person who’s It determines how everyone else has to move. My favorites were grand jete tag and Pips tag.
