A menu plan with very little preamble

My dad is coming to town sometime this week, so there’s a good chance that at least one of these meals will turn into “Hey have you been to that restaurant? We should try it.” I’m at peace with that.

Monday: Co-op potluck
I made Orzo Salad with Spicy Buttermilk Dressing, and I think I used too much garlic because it is fragrant.

Tuesday: Crockpot chicken tacos
Chicken + taco seasoning + salsa = dinner. (Well, and tortillas, cheese, etc., but it’s still pretty easy.)

Wednesday: Pizza subs
This was a Poppy request. We had them a lot back when we had a kids’ choice day every week.

Thursday: Breakfast for dinner
I bought a bag of shredded hash browns from Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago, and they really hit the spot. They didn’t have any the last time I was there, but I’m holding out hope that they’ll have them again this week.

Friday: Cheeseburgers
Poppy will be spending the night with a friend, so we’ll indulge Pete’s love of cheeseburgers.

NaBloPoMo November 2015

I have the plan, but I don’t have the groceries.

We had a terrifically fun weekend, spent in a beautiful cabin in the mountains with our extended family. Poppy went horseback riding with her aunt, uncle-to-be and some cousins; we saw the “Peanuts” movie and “Spectre” (I only fell asleep during one of them); and we engaged in some XTREME competition. It was relaxing and lovely, and now we are all sick with wicked colds.

And so the following menu plan is dependent upon one of the inhabitants of the Butterscotch Sundae household who is licensed to drive hauling themselves out of the cozy blankets and getting to the grocery story. Otherwise it’ll be oatmeal every night.

Monday: Leftover chili? Omelets? Grilled cheese?
I suspect it’s going to be fend-for-yourself night.

Tuesday: Lemon chicken
I didn’t get the Ina Garten love until I tried her lemon chicken recipe. Now I get it.

Wednesday: BLAs
We used all of my fancy, farm-fresh bacon over the weekend, so we’ll have to use plain ol’ plebeian store-bought bacon for our Bacon Lettuce and Avocado sandwiches. I’m pretty sure we’ll be OK.

Thursday: Sloppy Joes
The key to a good Sloppy Joe is a soft, buttery bun with a crunchy exterior.

Friday: Pizza
I’m thinking it might be time for another BBQ chicken pizza. I still haven’t tried to make a Chicken, Bacon & Ranch version yet, though.

NaBloPoMo November 2015

Jet lag can lead to questionable meal planning

NaBloPoMo November 2015We returned from California on Thursday night; battled mild jet lag, attended our co-op Halloween festival and decorated creepy cookies on Friday; went to two soccer games and trick-or-treated on Saturday; and rested like it was our primary vocation on Sunday.

Monday: Fish sticks and mac & cheese
Tonight’s meal is a result of me trying to make a grocery list with jet lag.

“What do you want for dinner, kids?”

“Fish sticks!”

“Ew, fish sticks are gross! OK!”

Tuesday: Tacos
Because taco Tuesday is the best Tuesday, especially if avocados are invited to the party.

Wednesday: ???
Wednesday’s my birthday! I don’t know what we’ll be eating!

Thursday: Sandwiches
Most likely ham sandwiches, because I’ve been enjoying ham lately.

Friday: Chili
We’ll be having dinner with 13 other people. The CrockPots will be working overtime on the meaty, spicy Chili by George and the vegetarian Queen City Chili.

So. How was your Halloween?
