A menu plan after a weekend of soccer games

We spent a good bit of our weekend at various soccer fields, where Poppy was playing in a soccer tournament. It was her team’s first (and second and third) game of the year. They had a lot of fun, communicated well and played hard. They finished the tournament with one win, one tie and one loss.

There was considerably less running about yesterday, which was lovely. We went to church and had a BBQ lunch in the fellowship hall afterward, and I don’t think I left the house again once we got home. I will be leaving the house today, but not for terribly long. Then once we’re home I’ll make some quesadillas, per Poppy’s request.

Here’s the rest of the menu plan for this week:

Monday: Quesadillas
Last week’s quesadillas were a hit, and Poppy requested them again. I used some shredded chicken and black beans last Monday. Today’s edition will be ground beef, cheese and beans.

Tuesday: General Tso’s Meatballs
We had baked orange meatballs a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I’d make a variation on them this week. I’m going to make the meatballs with ground chicken, garlic and ginger, and I’m going to douse them with the Serious Eats recipe for General Tso’s sauce.

Wednesday: Breakfast for dinner
If it feels like we have breakfast for dinner every week, it’s because we pretty much do. I don’t love it, but the kids sure do.

Thursday: Poppyseed chicken
Everyone loved the poppyseed chicken when it made its appearance recently, and Pete and Rockford have been campaigning for it ever since.

Friday: Pizza
This may be the week I finally grill pizza again.

A menu plan for the week after we were sick

The kids and I were sick all last week with some kind of viral respiratory thing, and we’re still getting over it. We were still coughing over the weekend — we are still coughing today — but we had a nice time visiting with family anyway.

Poppy’s first soccer game for the year is this weekend, so hopefully the cough will have cleared by Friday. Perhaps I should’ve planned more health-restoring meals for this week. Alas, this is what we’ll be having:

Monday: Quesadillas
Today is Poppy’s Choice day, and she asked for a cheese quesadilla. The rest of us will be adding chicken and black beans to ours.

Tuesday: Spaghetti and meatballs
I just had a hankerin’ for some meatballs.

Wednesday: Breakfast for dinner
Pete didn’t want to eat for three days while he was at his sickest last week. I knew he’d turned a corner when he woke up one morning asking for an egg sandwich. He’ll likely have another one on Wednesday.

Thursday: Cheeseburgers
It’s Pete’s turn to pick the evening’s meal, which means we’re having cheeseburgers.

Friday: Pizza
I finally got my broken grill fixed, but we’ll probably be ordering pizza this week anyway.

Our back-to-school menu looks a lot like our summertime menus

This weekend we celebrated Rockford’s birthday with swimming, pinball, fried chicken and the Olympics. It was a rather fine weekend.

Today is our first day of the 2016-17 school year. Poppy is in sixth grade this year, and Pete is in third. Our co-op, which takes up most of our Mondays, doesn’t start for another month or so, so it’ll be a pretty easy first day of school. Hopefully it’ll turn out to be a rather fine day, too.

Monday: Tacos
Shockingly enough, this was Poppy’s choice this week.

Tuesday: Ham sandwiches
Pete has been on a ham sandwich kick lately. He requested them again for Pete’s Choice night.

Wednesday: ???
I have a co-op meeting Wednesday evening, so Rockford is in charge. I’m not sure what he’s planning for dinner.

Thursday: Cracker Barrel chicken
This is so easy I’m surprised I don’t make it more often.

Friday: Pizza
So before Poppy got her braces last week, we were under the impression that she couldn’t have pizza. But the orthodontist told her she could have thin-crust pizza as long as she cuts it into small bites, so we’re going to try it this week.
