There are a billiondy-three words on the horizon for month eleven

So I’ve signed up for National Blog Posting Month and National Novel Writing Month again this year.

This will be my fifth year of NaBloPoMo, and I think it’s the third of fourth time I’ve attempting NaNoWriMo. I’m relatively confident that I’ll complete NaBloPoMo, and I’m equally as confident that I will not complete NaNoWriMo. The question is just how many days I’ll make it before I throw in the towel.

Anyway, just so you’ll have an idea of the sort of gems that await you this month, here’s a look at some of my favorite NaBloPoMo posts from years past:

An Interview with My Dad (2011)

On his first job: “I was supposed to empty a drip pan under the walk-in freezer every day, which must have been a pretty important thing. Because I always forgot to do it, and I only had the job for about a month before I was fired. Or maybe I was fired for helping myself to gas or a six-pack on the weekends.”

Elementary Civics (2011)

Poppy on the president: ” ‘He wears fancy ties,’ she said, ‘and he speaks very proudly.’ ”

An Interview with My Kid Brother (2011)

On his favorite film: “Re: Teen Wolf. We did not have a large collection of VHS tapes. This was one of them. I watched it a lot. And Michael J. Fox turns into a werewolf, and then his dad does too. And then they surf on a van and play basketball.”

The Suggestions of a More Exciting Life (2010)

This note reference here is still on my wall.

A Rootin’ Tootin’ Interview (2009)

It was when I internet-met Rootie Toot!

So Hooray for November! Let’s hope I don’t resort to live-tweeting breakfast by the end of the month.

On Sunday I was a hermit

I didn’t leave the house at all yesterday (nor did I take any pictures), so I don’t have all that much to report.

I got up and got ready for church in the morning, then decided to just keep my cold at home. Rockford took the kids to church, and I did a little laundry, watched several “Good Eats” re-runs and napped until they came home.

After church Poppy spent a good part of the afternoon out with Rockford’s mom, and Pete took a super long nap — I’m hoping that isn’t a sign that he’s going to be coming down with my cold — while Rockford worked on a presentation he has to do tomorrow. Meanwhile, I napped some more, watched “Thor” and started dinner.

The kids had been invited to some friends’ house to decorate Halloween cookies, so Rockford took them over there after dinner. If I were to wager a guess, I’d say he watched football while the kids decorated cookies. Surprisingly, I did not take a nap while they were gone.

Rockford has a lot of dinners out this week, and our menu plan for the week reflects that. In that it’s mostly kid-friendly standby meals.

Monday: Spaghetti

With Texas toast! I like Texas toast.

Tuesday: Fish sticks and mac & cheese

This is not one of my favorite meals. I’ll probably have an Amy’s vegetable pot pie from the freezer.

Wednesday: Chili

We trick or treat and have dinner with friends every year on Halloween. I’m 99 percent sure we’re having chili this year.

Thursday: Omelets

Poppy loves eggs, and she loves cheese. So why won’t see even try an omelet? I don’t know, but chances are I’ll be making fried eggs on Thursday, too.

Friday: Pizza

I’m already looking forward to Friday.

On Saturday I used a lot of tissues

Saturday was pretty nice, despite the fact that it ended with a box of Kleenex and a dose of NyQuil.

We started the day with Pete’s last soccer game of the season. He had a lot of fun, but I think they lost pretty convincingly. After that we came home for a bit before Poppy’s game to have lunch and do a little playing. (And also to take a short nap, if you were Rockford.) Poppy’s team won their last game of the season, and Poppy scored two goals.

After the games we went to the ice cream shop, then we came home. I spent most of the day on the couch with my Kleenex, but Rockford did lots of productive things. Like mowing the lawn and fixing some of the slats that had popped loose on the fence.

Per Rockford’s request, we had chili for dinner again last night. After dinner Poppy put on a play using some dolls. They had a “disco freeze-tag party,” which sounds pretty fantastic. I also finally broke down and took some NyQuil, and I discovered two stink bugs in the NyQuil box. Enough already, stink bugs.

We ended the day by flipping between two football games and the World Series game. Here’s hoping the Tigers won!
